I think it is safe to say anyone that knows the definition of words like, Side Cut, Pop, Effective Edge and Tweak know what Mt hood is all about. Hood is a summer safe haven for shredders all around the world. It is a small patch of snow that allows for summer time shred. Many unlucky shredders across the world are forced into activities like swimming, skateboarding and sun tanning. Lucky shredders located around the Mt Hood area are free to keep the carves flowing and air time plentiful.
Hood is something we at Airblaster love. Not only is it our winter shred territory but it is also a place for some summer time slush. Saturday July 7th was no exception. We departed Portland with our sites set on the salty land of High Cascade Snowboard Camp.
HCSC is a staple in the shred world. It is the area many professional snowboarders have perfected their craft. An area that campers have experienced the joy of learning a trick for the first time. For Airblaster it is a place of smooth half pipes and good friends.
Once we arrived at Timberline we geared up for a day of tweaking and slashing. The lift line was long but it did not discourage us at all. We trucked all the way to the top and began our day of laps trough the HCSC park. Snow conditions where good for early July. The jumps groomed to perfection and the blue sky was all anyone could ask for.
After 2 laps down we stumbled on a run of epic moguls. The moguls where a welcomed sign for the group that had come together. Ben Fee from Snowboarder magazine, Roger Cameron of Magical GOGO, Pat Moore from Forum Snowboards, Myself, Jonas and Jesse of Airblasater and last but not least Hondo (if you do not know who he is you should keep it that way). We lined up for a group run through the moguls and it was nothing short of epic.
The bumps are a challenge; they keep you on your toes. Every little move you make can make or break your run, and your knees. Bumps are not for the first time shredder; they are quadruple black diamond for sure. Located in the middle of the bumps were two melting ski jumps. Each jump offered many lines of creativity for each rider. Hand plants and transfers tossed down left and right.
After our day of shred we made a pit stop in Government Camp for a nice cool refreshing Cobra Dog. Cobra Dogs is the small hot dog stand owned by the mystery man himself Cory Grove. If you get a chance stop in to see Cory and grab a dog Cobra style.
